Cable Car 06:29
I can feel the stony sting come again, come again Moss grows green and dark over my ribs, over my ribs Cable car has fallen to bits, and the towers hum and spit In the snow, and a-walking we will go And the mouse-police never sleeps Never sleeps for the solitude she keeps For the solitude she keeps And the cradles and the creeps Ankles darkened from the rain In the pines And the long forgotten lines Tina, take the train to the hills Only in the hills is there anyone Anyone Still remember who you are Still remember who you are Still remember who you are In that tiny, orange car
2.
The Drug 06:11
There is a worry That eats you up inside Like a vampire bat that you can't hide There is a worry that eats you up inside There is a hate That makes you cry Like an aeroplane exploding in the sky There is a hate that makes you cry There's always room for a better man And you should let him thru your doorway If you can There's always room for a better man But here is the drug That'll make you forget it Jesus, singers, Cocaine, rivers Here is the drug That'll make you forget it

4.
Moby Dick 04:08
I could hunt you For breaking my boat and taking my leg If I should howl at the storm I would lose it all But I am not Ahab In the desert My blood is water The rock is a ship So hear the thunder and the fluke As she goes by I am not Ahab I am not Ahab Jenny break your mind In record time
5.
6.
Wisconsin 03:32
In the dark of day, I wandered here With a shoulder shorn and a shirt-sleeve torn Through snow and pine, from rock and snow A box of records to call my home And oh the howling wind As the cameras whirl, the rollers freeze It's a long way across the Atlantic Sea Wish I could see what the brown bird sees Wisconsin band'll bring you to your knees And oh, the bright sky
7.
8.
Telescope 07:02
I stand with crepe-paper hands And tiny lights A million lights And a breath of snow A breath of snow Telescope I see flashing ships With wings And a bright, bright stone A circle-stone High above my head High above my head Telescope Here comes the hour of four Still atop my hill My frozen hill A statue I've become A statue I've become Telescope My lens My eye My skeleton hands My radio My radio My radio Telescope
9.
Lawson Park 03:08
10.
Look there There beyond the dirt roads It's rising Where the box-car burned to a cinder I'm a lone hawk There are tables here Used to be for holidays Black-fingered, bracken now Crawling up, down, up, down Rising Hear that sound There, that whisper like steel Circling Little wings over the valley Spit on the sides Peering from the Walls Really, is there anyone out there at all? I can't hear you out there at all And the light on Hassan's Walls Wakes me It wakes me It wakes me.

about

"Jesus, Singers, Cocaine Rivers
Here is the drug that’ll make you forget it..."

The coda ringing at the end of “The Drug” – a tune from 2008’s Radio Twilight Lost - accurately sums up the feelings The Maple Trail’s Aidan Roberts is able to evoke through his prolific artistic endeavours.

Whether he is playing solo, with the full Maple Trail band, or his other project, Belles Will Ring, Roberts’ penchant for storytelling and musical finesse has always had a narcotic quality that enables a full surrender. Lying back and letting the records wash over you is truly the best way to enjoy the Maple Trail.

The dreamy temperament and the ease inherent in his music stems from the organic nature of Roberts’ creative process. He records everything himself in his home in Sydney, with virtually anything that will make noise (guitars, drums, washing machines, iPhone apps, etc.). While recording previous release, the aforementioned limited edition, Radio Twilight Lost (an intended sister record to 2007’s Dirty Echo Spark), Roberts was able to channel and focus the pointed essence of his then-home in the Blue Mountains, filtering it through his own photographic lens. The allusions to snow, dampness, telescopes, and shortwave radios are musical manifestations of everything Roberts was able to absorb in his state of airy isolation. The record is tactile, colorful, and gentle, making it an easy decision to re-release RTL for a wider audience in June 2010.

After a generous reworking of previously released songs, and the addition of a few new ones, Radio Twilight Lost will be a refined full-length available via iTunes and a limited-edition vinyl pressing on Australian label, Broken Stone Records. As if he isn’t busy enough, Roberts is currently recording another full- length with the full Maple Trail band.

If 30-year-old Aidan Roberts ever gets a free moment, you can bet he’ll spend it in the throes of some artistic venture, whether it be photography, videography, and the like. You can never be quite sure what he has his hands in at the moment, but you can always rely on the intrinsically beautiful outcome. Drug use is not to be condoned but with Roberts at the helm of an 8-track recorder, it’s really hard to say no.
